Introduction for parents and teachers
Dear Parents,
Most parents today are busy trying to be supermoms and superdads. And often we just wind up being Captain Chaos! We don’t usually succeed and keep our health and sanity, but we can have some super times with our super sons and daughters before God’s throne.
This Bible study is written for parents and children to do together over a six-week period of time. You can adapt it any way you wish. The activities are suggestions, but if you have a better idea that will work with your children, by all means, go for it! There are more activities suggested than most families will have time to do...I did that on purpose so you can pick the activities that will be most meaningful to your family, not so you can feel guilty for not doing every activity. If you do wish to do every activity, then you may want to make this into a longer study.
The Bible hero focused on in this study is David. However, scriptures from the New Testament are included, and all lessons point to the true Hero in our lives, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Day 1: Each week you will begin with an introductory lesson that could take up to two hours with the activities planned. The other lessons are significantly shorter.
Day 2: Day two is a devotional lesson that should only take 15-30 minutes unless you and your children have a longer discussion.
Day 3: Day three takes another scripture dealing with the topic of the week. It is usually a teaching from Jesus or one of the other New Testament scriptures.
Days 4 and 5: Days four and five apply the lesson to your child’s life. Day five gives an opportunity for the child to make a commitment of their lives to Jesus and to say how they are going to apply what they’ve learned that week.
The study is set up for the 5 lessons to be on Monday through Friday. Friday or Saturday night is a family worship time that you will want to be praying about and preparing for all week long since you will need to teach songs for that night during the week. You can include extended family or good friends in this worship time. Then, the whole family will be ready for the celebration of going to church on Sunday morning!
We also have a "Church Version" in which I've adapted the study for Sunday School. We have been using it at our church for six months now with children ranging from 7-17. It is easy to adapt to each age level and has been a wonderful study to do in the church setting. Copies are available at the same price as the home school version listed below.
The prayer of my heart is that this study will speak to our children, to challenge them to truly live their faith, and to learn how to worship.
God bless you as you teach and bless your little ones!

And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. (Deuteronomy 6:5-7 NLT)
